Full description

In the morning we start our trip leaving Oradea for one hour travel toward Chiscau. There we shall visit the cave around 50 minutes. The cave guide will give explanations in Romanian and the tour guide will do the translation. The Bear’s cave was accidentally discovered by Tiberiu Curta in 1975. He was astonished by the beauty of the cave and the authorities decided to close the excavations and to open it to the large public. Today there are more than 200 000 visitors yearly. There are 3 halls of the cave opened for visiting – the “Hall of Bones” , the “Emil Racovita hall” partially and the “Hall of Candles” – the 4th hall of the cave is a speleological reservation , off limits to the general public. Around 140 bear skulls were found inside. It is said that a lanslide closed the entrance and the bears were forced to eat each other due to the lack of the food. In the vicinity of the cave there is a very interesting etnographic museum free of charge. Afternoon we shall return back in Oradea.See more
